Sorrento with the Parents

Hello! Will be headed to Sorrento area for a few days, and plan to use this as our landing spot and branching out from there, Pompeii, Amalfi, Capri, etc.
We will also have our mobile but slow and can't climb many steps parents with us.

We will definitely rely on public transportation to get us from point to point and anywhere in between. Is there an area of Sorrento that would benefit us better than another area with this in mind?

Will be all of our first time there so any help would be appreciated!

My wife is mobility challenged and cannot climb but a few steps. She can only walk about 50 yards at a time and she travels with a folding personal power scooter.

We avoid cities on steep hillsides and stay in accommodations that have elevators. She is good to go in most cities, however she met her match in Venice. She had to stay at an apartment next to the train station while the 13 year old and I toured the city on foot.

Month of year? Very important for this location. It is already late to book Sorrento for 2025.

Sorrento is a very level town, with dozens of hotels in the level area, but some cheaper "bus tour" hotels are located up on the hillside, and essentially require a shuttle bus to get their guests to downtown Sorrento.

You have not yet done enough research (search box top center) about how crowded transportation is from May to September. During these months, the busses that originate in Sorrento (toward Amalfi) have a waiting line that is longer than the number of people who will fit on the next half-hourly bus. The train (Naples and Pompeii, say) is incredibly hot and crowded. I think your parents will be given a seat, but that cannot be assured. The Circumvesuviana is elbow-to-elbow, very tight. Pompeii and Capri are wonderful outings, easily done from Sorrento. But both destinations have MILES of walking, and are very exposed to heat and sun. Capri is largely pedestrianized.

Both Positano and Amalfi require a certain number of steps to climb, especially Positano.

Sorrento is level and easy while staying at any place a block or so off the main street. However, all of your day trip destinations will be extremely difficult for them. Pompeii, while flat, has a ton of irregular surfaces to negotiate. The other towns are extremely hilly so what will your plan be for them there? Perhaps a private guide can assist in driving up to the top of these towns so your parents can see them by walking downhill?

Many of the streets in Pompeii have monstrous, bulging cobblestones. They are not easy to walk on. Often the sidewalks are much higher than the street, so it can be a major challenge to switch from one surface to the other--which is sometimes highly desirable if not absolutely required because of crowds blocking the sidewalks.

It appears, from what other posters have reported, that taxis along the Amalfi Coast and in Sorrento are extremely expensive.
