Sorrento - Where to eat, what to do?

We are traveling from Rome in a rental car, stopping in Pompeii for a 2pm tour then on to Sorrento for the evening and next full day. Where is a good place to eat dinner the first night since we will be arriving in Sorrento later in the day?

Also, we had thought about driving to the Amalfi coast, but I am prone to motion sickness so didn't want to take the bus or drive it ourselves after reading some of the comments from other travelers. Or would a boat be a better choice to go to one of the cities to see the coast from that point of view, and take photos?

Or is there enough to do in Sorrento for an entire day? Any good spots to photograph or suggestions on places to eat would be great?

Lv2Trvl, I have the same problem with terrible, life-long motion sickness so the Amalfi coast buses were a no-go for me, and I probably couldn't have handled it in a car either. Try the boats; I was mildly ill on one to Capri but it was more from poorly ventilated exhaust fumes than anything. Positano would be the closest of the towns to do by water, and Capri is an option as well.

Then again, if any of the over-the-counter remedies for queasy stomachs work for you...

But you may want a plan B for weather as well. Exploring the coast wouldn't be all that much fun if it's pouring rain, and the boats can't dock in Positano if the seas are too rough. Yes, there's enough to explore in Sorrento should Plan A fall apart: spend some time with a guide book!

I am assuming that you're traveling during the warmer months when all of the boats are running?

Il Leone Rosso (The Red Lion) would be one of my reco's for dinner. I see it's still getting positive reviews: good, casual, friendly and reasonable.

We loved the Ristorante Delfino when we were there in 2013. Mentioned RS book and got a free limoncello. Get a seat outside on the dock. Owners are extremely nice!
