Sorrento view without breaking the bank?

I will be staying in Sorrento for 3 nights in early June. I am trying to decide on a hotel or B&B. By looking at pictures of Sorrento, it makes me think that this is a view I don't want to miss upon awakening. When I look at a map, it looks as if the rooms with a view may not be convenient to walking around in the town center during any spare time we have. The prices also seem steep. Does anyone know of a room with a view in Sorrento that won't break the bank nor too far from town center? We will be arriving the first day after taking the train from Orvieto and making a stop at Pompeii. We will have that late afternoon/evening for walking around in Sorrento. The other two days, we will be spending at Capri and then touring the Amalfi Coast. We will have those late evenings in Sorrento as well. I'm not really sure which way to go: near the marina or town center? Any advice will be appreciated!

try Hotel il Nido. it's up the hill with killer view from the balcony that doubles as breakfast and dinner seating. rooms with a view are obviously more expensive but the partial view isn't bad at all. they have free shuttle to and from town which is very convenient. I've stayed there many times now and think their restaurant is now the best in Sorrento. enjoy!

cliff,

I was also going to suggest Hotel Il Nido as they do have great views. Although it's located a bit out of town, the free Shuttle runs frequently so that's not a problem. You may be interested to have a look at the Trip Advisor reviews as they get very good reviews.

I also agree on Hotel Il Nido - we loved staying there! Our room didn't have much of a view, but the breakfast/dining room view was amazing. We ate dinner there our first night and ended up returning every following night because it was so delicious. And, the fresh orange juice machine at breakfast made the best juice ever. This hotel is a good example why we love family-run businesses.

I stayed at the Marina Piccola 34 - it is down by the water, close to the ferry boats and great restaurants on the water and an easy walk up the hill to the town (or there is an elevator). I loved the view, the wonderful hospitality and the ease I had in getting to everywhere I needed to.

We stayed in the town center, right off Piazza Tasso at Palazzo Montefusco Relais and absolutely loved it. I highly recommend it. I liked being steps away from restaurants, shops, gelaterias, etc. Our hotel was located in a pedestrian-only zone and we loved walking around at night window-shopping, etc. It was only a 10-15 minute walk from Marina Grande and we walked down to the marina several nights. I like staying in the town center whenever possible when I travel throughout Italy because I like the flexibility of leaving the hotel and being close to "the action" and not having to worry about how to get back to the hotel (i.e relying on a shuttle or taxi) or walking far.

In Monterosso, I stayed in a hotel with an ocean view but it was also in the town center and close to everything. It's just a personal preference but if you desire a room with a view, go for it...I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Oh…I am so torn… I have booked all accommodations for my two-week trip with the exception of Sorrento. Hotel II Nido looks fabulous, but some reviews I read said the bus only runs once an hour. This could be an inconvenience since we only have a couple of hours in the evenings to enjoy the town. It would be just my luck to get to the bus stop right after it pulls away. That is my only draw back on that one. Is anyone familiar with the bus schedule here? Suzanne, I cannot seem to find Marina Piccola 34. Can you guide me? I can only find a 73, which seems charming if you don't get booted into another place as some reviews stated. Sheron, your suggestion looks amazing. I'm beginning to think that I may just stay in the town center, but my fingers just don't seem to want to click on that! I feel as if I may be completely over thinking this…I just want to enjoy every minute and enjoy the stunning views without spending half of my time waiting on buses. I really appreciate all of the advice you guys have provided!

Hi Sherry, my wife and I are travelling to Italy early June too, I have been checking out caravan parks in the Sorento area, they appear to have fantastic views from the dining areas. It may be worth a look Sherry, but please don't book the last cabin and lock us out LOL

About 7-8 years ago we stayed at Bellevue Syrene right across the water from Mt. Vesuvius. Fantastic view, fantastic location with a 3 minute walk into Sorrento town center. Restaurant was excellent, beautiful grounds/terrace. Close to ferry to Capri. Enjoy Sorrento/fabulous! Francesca

Hi sherry, I was in Sorrento ten days ago (so beautiful!) and we stayed at Villa Monica, we loved it!! Magnificent views , a wonderful host, great rooms, suberb breakfast for 250 euros for three nights. It's above town but Pasquale ,the owner takes you to/from town whenever you need it. I think I heard him say that was all booked for the summer, but I'm not sure about it. Check it out , it's a lovely place!

Sherry, don't worry about not finding the bus. We're talking Sorrento, not Rome. It's just not that big of a place. They pick you up where they drop you off, so no confusion there. The drop-off/pick-up point is centrally located, too. It's a very open and wide spot in the road (see Google maps!). ALL of the surrounding hotels use the same location, and Il Nido uses their own, clearly-marked (and comfy) minibus. Easy-peasy. If anything, the bus was a bit late...and it always stayed for several minutes to wait for stragglers.

Just use a map, and you'll be fine. Get to the pick-up point in plenty of time so that you aren't sweating it. Absolute worst case - use a taxi...but you won't need one ;-)

And DO eat dinner at the restaurant! Fabulous! With a view of Mt Vesuvius, whether inside or outside on the balcony (bring a sweater or shawl!). AND afterwards, you just wander down the hall to your room...

(And yes, you are over-thinking it LOL! Been there, done that...)

I stayed at Sorrento Belvedere B&B last June for 3 night and loved it. Perfetto location just around the corner from Piazza Tasso. Although my room did not have a view (but a bene skylight), there is a rooftop that I spent my evenings on. From the rooftop you can see the piazza as well as the sea.

Thanks to all for your fantastic suggestions and tips! Several were already booked. I think I almost waited a little late. I have narrowed it down to either Casa Asarita B&B in town (as recommended by RS) or II Nido on the bay. They both are vacant for my time there. May flip a coin on this one. Thanks again!

Sherry,
Our stay in Sorrento this past September was at the Hotel Villa Marie, situated at the south end of town, at almost the end of the main drag. Our room had a huge outdoor terrace which gave us a very lovely view of Mt. Vesuvius and the Sea. We did have quite a bit of landscape between us and that view but for the price, which I think was 570 Euros for thre e nights. We couldn't have been more pleased. Nice hotel well within walking distance of almost everything there is to see and do in Sorrento. Good breakfasts in the dining room included in the price and a lovely outdoor pool, and several outdoor terraces with bars, etc. Sorrento is our favourite place in Italy.
