What's the easiest/cheapest way to travel from Sorrento to Salerno?
From June 19 through October 8, the Metro Del Mare hydrofoil connects Sorrento to Salerno in 90 minutes for 12 Euros. Year-round, there is the daily hourly SITA bus from Sorrento to Salerno (with a bus connection in Amalfi) in 175 minutes for 7.20 Euros. From April through October, there are several daily ferry boats from Positano to Salerno (TRAVELMAR; 10 Euros). You could get to Positano from Sorrento by hourly SITA bus (50 minutes; 3.60 Euros). You could also take the half-hourly Circumvesuviana rail to Naples, then a Trenitalia train to Salerno, although this is backtracking geographically. www.metrodelmare.net www.coopsantandrea.it (TRAVELMAR ferries) www.vesuviana.it www.ferroviedellostato.it
If you decide on the bus to Positano and a ferry from there to Salerno, be sure to get off at the 2nd stop in Positano (bottom of town) rather than the 1st stop (top of town). It's a long, long walk down several hundred stairs from the 1st bus stop to the ferry dock. There are some stairs from the 2nd bus stop to the dock, but they're a breeze compared to the alternative.
