Sorrento to Rome with stops in pompeii and Mt vesuvius

We are a group of 5 traveling in November from Sorrento to Rome. We would like to visit Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius on the way. In lieu of public transportaion we were considering a private car transfer via mydaytrip from Sorrento to Naples as an option at $340 ($68per person). We then will take a train from Naples to Rome.
I'm looking to allott a 4 hour stop in pompeii and 2 hours at Vesuvius. We could add or subtract any amount of time if needed (with not much more of an increase per person). Upon arrival in Naples, we would then catch a fast train to arrive in Rome the same evening.
Is this a reasonable plan?
Is this a sufficient amount of time at both of our stops?
Is it worth the money not having to navigate the public transportation system for such a long day?
Any suggestions or advice would be welcomed.. Thank you Kindly!

It is hard to fit five guests and luggage in a four-door sedan. Is that the size vehicle they have quoted for you? The price seems entirely fair. Because the low-price (if you are still in time to get them ...) Frecciarossa train tickets are not changeable or refundable, your schedule is completely rigid once you choose a particular departure time from Naples. Otherwise, this seems like a good plan, and reasonable cost for five people. Are you going to do Pompeii together, or separately and meet up on time? It's a huge, huge place. But 4 hours is a reasonable decision. Many posters here stayed longer.

I couldn't care less about Mt. Vesuvius, and I don't understand why it is a must for so many people. Even in summer, it seems like a dusty, leg-twisting, barren site. The view of the volcano that destroyed the city, FROM Pompeii, is what seems important to me. Don't forget to fit lunch (perhaps inside Pompeii) into your schedule. You don't have time for Italian "slow food" on this particular day. You should ask the provider if there is choice of drop-off points at Vesuvius, with either more or less hill-climbing.

If you decide against Vesuvius, you could visit the Archaeology Museum or walk around Naples before departing. Check if the annoying traffic inside Naples changes the car quote, if you choose that.
