OK all you travel pros. Please advise! This is one of those situations that I am not quite sure how to make this work. I will be in Sorrento. My friends will be in Capri. I will arrive on the day in question (flying into Naples, train to Sorrento) and my friends are coming over from Capri in the afternoon. We would like to meet that night in Positano for dinner and drinking. SO....what is the best way for me to get to Positano (how late do buses run from Sorrento???....I will probably be looking to go around 8pm or so) AND then how do I get back to my hotel in Sorrento after a night in Positano (good chance we will be at the bar til it closes which I assume could be like 2 or 3am). I don't imagine buses run 24 hours. Is a taxi my only option? How much would it cost to taxi back to Sorrento at 2:00 in the morning? My friends will likely be staying in Positano but I have already paid (pre-paid) for my Sorrento hotel room so would like to get back there if possible. HELP! thanks

Buses run until about midnight in both directions in the summer. Going to Positano around 8:00pm won't be a problem, but last bus back departs at 12:40am. Buses may not run as late off season. You can check schedules at www.sitabus.it. Taxi at 2:00am, if you could even get one, would be VERY expensive.

As always, can count on Rick Steve-ites to reply promptly and with good info. Thanks for the input. I need to give more thought to my plan b/c it sounds like I either need to make it an early night (not fun!) or stay with friends in Positano or be prepared to shell out a lot for a taxi that may or may not be available.
