we will be going from Sorrento to Positano next month with bags to spend two nights in Positano. I know there is a ferry between the two towns but wondering if a Taxi or car service is better and maybe even more efficient for four people. Thank you for any ideas, past experiences, Dann

The bus will be the least expensive travel method. With four people, a car service would be a better option as they will drop you right at the hotel. As I recall, there are suggestions for reliable car hire in the RS Italy guidebook.

Positano has thousands of stairs. Check with your hotel about luggage and arrival movement. Only a few hotels are on a road. Note that a sedan with five persons and luggage is quite full. I would hire a car service unless rock-bottom budget.
We did not sleep in Positano but hired a car and driver for a day on the AC from our Sorrento hotel. We used our hotel's land service partner agency, charged to our room. Went great.

The ferry ride from Sorrento to Positano is very scenic and most likely less motion-sickness-inducing than the winding roads of the Sorrentine peninsula. We took the ferry everywhere there, including from Napoli to Sorrento, and I'd recommend it. They are pretty fast.
