Sorrento to Naples in June

Ciao!

We are seeking a return trip to Napoli Centrale from Sorrento in early June.

Looks like the Campania Express doesn't depart early enough to make our train in Napoli (11:09). Either that, or it's just sold out. Things look crazy full this time of year, and it likely doesn't help that we're dealing with a Saturday. We usually travel in Feb/Mar or Oct, so I'm planning to buy these connections NOW to make sure we don't have a situation.

Looking at the timetables on CapriTourism.com shows only the Alilauro ferries. Rick mentions multiple lines in the guidebook, but only this one is showing. Does anyone know if that's because it's Saturday?

Any suggestions for making this trek efficiently/safely? If we have to suck it up and hop a crack of dawn ferry we'll be grateful for the option, but I wanted to check to see if I'm overlooking another solution.

I'm aware of Circumvesuviana. Have not checked that timetable as we will have luggage and it just sounds like a bad idea all the way around for Saturday.

I was thinking the trains leave Sorrento 8 minutes as early as 6:00 a.m.

Wouldn't be surprised if the frequency is less on weekends, but you'll be able to make it back to Naples to the fast train.

How much luggage will you have?
Sorrento is the end of the Circumvesuviana line or in your case -where it starts

I’d think an early train on Saturday wouldn’t be too bad
You’ll be boarding an empty train
Get seats near a door

A driver will be over 120 euros

I agree with ChristineH, on a Saturday when schools are still open an early Circumvesuviana train seems the easiest option to me.

Does anyone know if that's because it's Saturday?

Maybe that's because it's February 16 and the competing companies offering a seasonal service haven't uploaded the summer schedules.

I think so because I see no reason to reduce the ferry service on summer Saturdays, when the demand from locals is higher than on working days.

I'd just Check again around Easter Monday, when everybody makes a day trip.

Do you have to pay for a taxi to the ferry (or ferry to rail station) or Circumvesuviana station anyway? That would take some of the sting from the air-conditioned private car and driver cost.

We used the Circumvesuviana and we had a party of 4 adults staying in Sorrento for a week. We had a large amount of luggage and it was fine. The train was moderately crowded at times but we didn't have an issue. You can check out Monetti Taxi out of Sorrento too. They do transfers in the area. We used them for our Amalfi Coast day trip and they were great.
Good luck.

Wow - thank you all for such prompt and thorough replies!

I'll investigate the options presented but appreciate your time and generosity of spirit in sharing these tips.

We only use carry-ons - never check a bag unless it's on the return because we're sending dirty laundry and carrying on a new treasure from the trip. Maybe I am too early to discount Circumvesuviana - I just picture that terrible discomfort of cramming on a commuter train with luggage that doesn't belong/doesn't have a place to be and getting the stink eye for a poor choice.

To Dario's point, it may also be that I'm too early for the expanded summer ferry schedules. I guess that includes its own risk of adverse weather...it may be Circumvesuviana or bust!

Again, thank you all!!

Looking at the timetables on CapriTourism.com shows only the Alilauro
ferries.

Just as a side note, don't use that website. This is the best tourism site for Sorrento:

You can check ferry schedules the site I've linked but they're not fully posted yet for spring/summer.

If you only have carry-ons, I think you'd be fine with the Circ. Just give yourself a comfortable cushion, time-wise, for making your train in Napoli.
