Sorrento to Naples: catch my flight?

I hope to take the Alilauro hydrofoil from Sorrento to Naples Beverello in time to catch an 11:15 AM flight from Naples International. The first boat from Sorrento leaves at 8:10 and arrives at Beverello at 8:45. We'll need a bus or taxi to the airport. Does this leave time to arrive and get checked in? The Alibus site shows they go from Beverello to Centrale to the airport, but doesn't list travel times. I'd appreciate any help. (Travelling on a weekday in late Sept.)

Almost everyday but less traffic on sunday, the traffic will be horrendous.
Becuz of that i would always take a taxi. It may cost more but they will get u there.
U are at peak hours.
Take note it will be the craziest ride u will ever take.
Of course the altenate is stay at airport over nite and get there at your leisure.

Is your flight from Naples heading home directly to Minnesota (or another international destination necessitating an extra-early check in), or to a closer destination that might allow you a later check-in time? Has your airline confirmed when you MUST be checked in?

Tom, as others have said, the first thing you need to figure out is what time you really NEED to be at the Naples Airport in order to go through security, check in, board your flight, etc. Then you have two choices. One is to spend the night before in Sorrento, and then, I think, go directly from Sorrento to the Naples Airport. There is the Curreri bus that makes that trip from the Sorrento train station to the airport, directly in 90 minutes for 10 euros per person. There is a departure at 6:30 am, arriving at the airport at 8:00 am, which means a very early morning for you. Then there is another departure at 8:30 am which arrives at 10:00 am, maybe too late for your check-in. Your hydrofoil schedule might make it difficult to make your flight, even if taking a taxi through Naples traffic. At a minimum it would add stress. An alternative would be a taxi or car service, direct from the door of your hotel in Sorrento to the airport, on your own schedule, probably about 100 euros. Your second choice would be to leave Sorrento the day before your flight, maybe in the afternoon or early evening, and spend the night in Naples, perhaps right by the airport. Good luck!

Your plan is not realistic. You must include contingency time for lines and disruptions at a small, southern-Italian airport. You have also pinned your hopes on a romantic boat ride, when you should be looking into the crowded, hot Circumvesuviana - which has some delays, but nothing like a highway and a tunnel on the way to Naples. In this case, a weekday is an advantage.

We hired a car and driver from our hotel, but that's a higher budget (NOT more than a taxi) option.

Thanks to all for the replies. It appears my best alternatives are 1) an early-morning Circumvesuvia trip from Sorrento to Naples, or 2) changing my reservation to spend the final night in Naples. I've been unable to get anything useful from the British Airways web site about check-in times (they merely say, "be at your gate 20 minutes before flight time").

I have been faced with the same issue, I would stay my final night in Naples then a taxi to the airport. ..Too risky taking the boat.

I think the Circumvesuviana is safer. For a flight to London it is sufficient to be at NAP airport 75-90 min prior to departure. Therefore in your case you should be there by 10am. If you leave Sorrento with the 8:26 train, you will be at Napoli P. Garibaldi at 9:16. Even with bad traffic a taxi can take you to the airport in 20-25 min. With no traffic it's only 10 min since the airport is 3 miles from the station.

One more thing. For the taxi from the station to the airport if you want the predetermined flat rate (I think €16 plus applicable extra charges like baggage) you must request it upon boarding the taxi, otherwise the very shrewd Neapolitan taxi drivers will apply the meter fare.

If you opt for the Circumvesuviana with luggage, be aware that, unlike some other trains with luggage racks for your bag(s), you'll need to keep your bag with you. you'll likely depart Sorrento as one of a relatively few passengers, and your luggage can easily fit on the seat next to you. The closer to Naples, the fuller the train will get, and your bag might need to go under your seat, or you might need to get up and stand with it in the area by the door.Otherwise, a surly passenger might make things unpleasant. Hope you wind up with a workable arrangement-happy travels!

Question for Roberto: Because there is so much U.K. interest in Naples and Sorrento/AC, are there Immigration formalities AT the Naples Airport? I mean, like in Brussels for the Eurostar to London, or like in Shannon for U.S. Citizens going to the U.S.?

I only ask because it's an additional slug of time to allow for.

Thanks, Roberto, for the taxi info. Cyn, I also appreciate the luggage advice. It looks like we'll take the train. We travel pretty light, and our bags will fit on our laps if necessary.

@ Tim:
The immigration formalities at the Naples airport are no different than anywhere else.

The UK has opted out of the EU Schengen treaty, therefore passengers going to London (or coming from London) have to go through passport control at their departure (or arrival). It's a very simple process which requires you to show the passport to the Border Police (Polizia di Frontiera) before proceeding to the gate. It doesn't take long at all, especially when departing.
