Sorrento to Ischia to Rome. 14 days help with logistics

Hi

My family (husband, 14 and 15 year old) are leaving from Boston and flying into Rome.

Would love some help on easiest ways to get everywhere. I do not want to rent any cars.

This site recommended to go right to Sorrento rather than staying in Rome.
We will be in Sorrento June 26-July 1 and I have reservations at these two places (I need to cancel one)... Residence Le Terrazze Sorrento as well as Artis Somus Relais and Spa. ANyone visit either? When in Sorrento; fav things to do? see?

We then head for some relaxation IN ischia until the 5th, Is this too much time? We booked Relais Bijoux B&B; yet would be open to any other options that anyone has!

We will then head out to finish the trip in Rome and staying and fly back on the 9th.

Thanks so much!!!! FLights are booked, but everything else is refundable so I am totally open to any other opinions!

Your plan looks OK. Not exactly sure what you are asking. You'd take the train from Rome to Sorrento on arrival (fast train to Naples, then local train Naples to Sorrento). During your time there you can take the bus to Positano/Amalfi/Ravello or take the ferry or take the bus one way and the ferry the other. Obviously ferry if you want to go to Capri. Can also take the train to Pompeii. When ready to leave for Ischia you can go by ferry directly from Sorrento (no need to go back to Naples first) although I think only one or two per day so you'd need to check the schedules. Then obviously ferry Ischia to Naples and train back to Rome. You can also take the ferry from Naples to Sorrento but that's not as convenient as the local train because you will already be in the train station (the 'fast' trains from Rome come in on the ground floor, the local train to Sorrento is the lower level, but it's the same station). To get from the train station in Naples to the ferry dock in Naples requires a taxi.

I've only been to Ischia on a day trip from Sorrento so can't say if 4 nights there is too much. Certainly you can see the main town and the castle in a day but you want time to relax so that's different. Looks like you only have 4 nights in Rome which is 'ok' but a little tight. I might take a day or two from Ischia to give to Rome but clearly that won't be 'relaxing' time. Totally up to you. No right or wrong answer.

Hi Karen, I've not been to the Artis Domus, but have visited Residence La Terrazze. The views from this one are absolutely amazing! Did look up the rooms on both, and the second seems much more serene. It also provides a shuttle service into the center of Sorrento and is maybe a block for the bus to Positano and Amalfi.

The bus will get you to the Circumvesuvian in under 20 minutes. Making it easy for you to reach the train to Pompeii and the ferry to Capri and Ischia.

Here is my post on your previous thread with instructions on how to reach Sorrento and beyond.

"Karen, the reason so many posters are telling you to go south first is because your arrival day is usually wasted. You'll better utilize your time, having more FULL days per location. Here's what I'd do...
Day 1 Arrive Rome. Allow 2-3 hours for passport/immigration. Taxi to Rome Termini. With 4 of you it will be less expensive than the Leonardo Express. Train to Napoli Centrale 1hr17min. Circumvesuvian (located downstairs of Naples station) to Sorrento. 1Hr15m.
4 Nights Sorrento. Can only recommend this hotel, Since we usually stay at my daughters home north of Naples. http://www.booking.com/Share-3huZLd
Great staff, wonderful food, shuttle into town.

Day 5 Day trip enroute to Ischia. Ferry to Capri, 30 min. Luggage storage by the ferry terminal.
Head up to Anacapri on arrival. You teens will enjoy the chair lift up to Monte Solaro. There are some nice walks up here. Then walk back down to Capri town for your ferry to Ischia, 50 min.

4 nights Ischia. With 4 of you, and your wish for beaches, look here...

Day 9 Ferry, Ischia-Naples Molo Beverello 1hr.
Taxi to Napoli Centrale. There's a fixed rate fare to the station, with 4, it will be about the same fare as the Alibus. Train to Rome. Edit:

4 nights Rome. If this is your first trip to Rome, I'd utilize a hotel.
Hope this helps.

The # of days for Ischia is not too much! There's more than enough to do on this beautiful island.
