Sorrento to Florence

I will be traveling to Italy in late December, early Jan.

I think we will be in Sorrento part of the trip, and then move on to Florence.

Looking at rail sites, I see it doesn't calculate Sorrento to Florence.

Any advice on how to figure this out... time, price, etc?

Thanks a million!

that's because you need to take the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Naples. That train system is not part of the Trenitalia network.

Try looking up Naples to Florence. The Circumvesuviana system also has a website, in English also this year.

The private Circumvesuviana train goes from Sorrento to the lower level of the Naples-Garabaldi train station (Naples Main). The trip takes about an hour and costs 3.20Euro. It's a local train that makes about 17 stops along the way. Once in the Naples train station, go upstairs and catch the Trenitalia train from Naples to Florence. The ES high-speed takes 3hrs-15min and costs 63.70Euro. The slower IC train takes 5hrs-9min and costs 39.00Euro. Same tracks but the IC train makes many more stops.

The website for the Circumvesuviana train is www.vesuviana.com. CLICK HERE to see a typical morning train schedule for the Trenitalia trains. Click on Next for later trains.

Also remember that Trenitalia will not have a full winter timetable on-line this far out, so it will look a little sparse if you enter Dec/Jan dates. The services between major towns will change a little but usually not enough to prevent you using the current timetable for planning purposes.
