We are going to be in Sorrento for 4 nights and want to see CT for 2 nights and looking for suggestions to stay for 3 nights before returning to Rome. I was thinking of Lucca as a possibility, is it easy to take train from Sorrento to Lucca and then to CT? We have not been to Italy in 10 yrs and drove last time but thinking of doing the train this visit.

Just a suggestion--because that's a lot of time on the train and in transit. Have you been to the Amalfi coast? You could get something very similar to the Cinque Terre right there, without all that travel. Some would even suggest you just stay in Sorrento longer and take day trips, but I'd head over to Amalfi or one of the other villages for your three days, or go to Capri, Procida, or Ischia.

From Sorrento, you’ll need to take the Circumvesuviana train to Naples (Napoli) P. Garibaldi (1h). You then need to go upstairs (the station name changes to Napoli Centrale) and take the Intercity 522 train departing at 17:31 arriving in Monterosso at 24:22: https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html.
On Fri, Sat and Sun the train departs Central Naples at 5PM arriving in Monterosso at the same time?

It should be "00:22" ( 22 minutes past midnight). Not a good time to arrive in Monterosso as it is unlikely many ( any?) hotels have a manned 24 hr check in desk.
