Sorrento to Capri/Sorrento to Positano

Hi there,

I know I have another topic going, but I was wondering if someone could help me with this portion of my trip.

After my sisters and I finally get to our hotel in Sorrento, how do you all recommend we get to Capri & Positano.

The first day we would like to get to Capri early. I was thinking a ferry. Has anyone done this in the summertime? We'll be there in late June.

The second day we would like to go to Positano and spend the day walking around, lunching, shopping, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to do in Positano? How to get there? I am wary of the bus as everyone says it is super crowded. If we left fairly early on a week day, do you think that would be an issue? How would we get back if the bus is packed full of Amalfi people when we need to get back to Sorrento?

Your only choice for getting to Capri is by boat, ferry or hydrofoil.

As for getting back and forth to Positano, taking a bus is certainly one of the best options. If it's full, wait for the next one. In the evening you could go back to Sorrento by ferry, which would be an excellent way to get an entirely new view of the famous Amalfi coast.

Just show up at the ferry dock and buy tickets for the next departure to Capri; no need to worry much about schedules in advance. I also like the idea of taking bus one way to Positano and ferry one way, for variety of views and experiences. If you see Positano and then continue one more hour to Amalfi, you will be one of the first passengers onboard for the return.
