We are visiting Pompeii in the late afternoon. How late does the ferry from Sorrento to Capri run? We have hotel room there for that night. Timetable I found on the internet shows 5:45 pm to be last ferry. That seems early. Is that really true?
In a word, probably. We were there recently, staying in Sorrento. Our host warned us to be careful not to miss the last boat back, which was similarly surprisingly early. Maybe there is a later boat from a nearby town? By the way, I think it's a good idea to spend a night on Capri. We wished we had planned to do so. Be sure to visit Anacapri, especially the church of San Michele with its marvelous majolica tile floor.
When we were there, 5:45 was the last boat back. We chose to take an earlier boat since there is no guarantee of actually getting on the boat if there are too many people in front of you. Another reason to go over as early as possible in the morning.
According to the timetables on www.capri.net, there is a fast ferry that leaves Sorrento at 19:25. Ferries and hydrofoils run even later from Naples.
Thanks for verifying that information. We will plan on going to Capri via Naples rather than Sorrento.
