Our original itinerary is Rome- Amalfi Coast ( base in Sorrento ) then Barcelona. I know that we can take Bus to Naples airport then take Vueling air to Barcelona. I realize that we will waste almost one day travel with the security check ,the waiting, checking in of luggages.So, I am not sure if Barcelona is a good idea. We have been to Venice and Florence in the past. Please advise. Thanks.

I think it depends on how long you have, and where you fly out of. If you don't have much time, I would suggest you spend the time in Italy. There are plenty of smaller towns that are relatively easy trips from the Amalfi Coast: Paestum, with some beautifully preserved Greek Temples, Pompei, etc. There are also plenty of other areas near Rome including Tivoli and Orvieto amongst others. Not to mention the amount of time that can easily be spent in Rome and still not see everything.

Thanks for the suggestion .We'll be spending 14 days not including the day we lose travelling from Sfo to Rome.
