Sorrento to Amalfi or Positano

We will be staying in Sorrento for 3 nights in September so we have only 2 full days.

We arrive in Naples by train and have a private car picking us up. We are stopping at a winery for lunch and then spend a few hours in Pompeii before arriving in Sorrento. We plan to have dinner and walk to Tasco Square our first evening.

Our second day, we have a boat trip to Capri. I've read there is not much to see during the day in Sorrento so I'm thinking we should spend our last day in either Amalfi or Positano.

Would you stay in Sorrento the last day? If not, would you go to Amalfi or Positano. We do need to be back in Sorrento about 4:00 (cooking class that evening) so I think we should do only one town. Also, should we take the ferry and return by bus or take the bus and return by ferry?

I appreciate any advice you can offer.

We may be doing something similar for our second Italy trip in 2020. We never went south of Rome, so I'm following this one for advise as well. : )

Go to both Amalfi and Positano. We also went up to Ravello. Easy, take a bus there from Sorrento. and move around by bus and ferry. Check the schedules to see which way to travel back and forth. We just walked to the bus station by the train station and went. Later decided to take the ferry back.
Piazza Tasso in Sorrento won’t take long either.

The big café in Piazza Tasso is a place to see and be seen in direct sunlight as you drink overpriced drinks. Instead, check out the Ercolano bar at the west end of the Piazza. Nice folks and better prices.

Thanks everyone. We decided to just take a mini-bus tour with Amalfi Coast Tour Select (http://www.amalficoastourselect.com/).

They offer an eight hour tour including lunch for 75 Euro which includes an hour in Positano, Amalfi, Scala and Ravello. It's a whirlwind tour but we will get to see a little of each town. Their reviews are great so hopefully we will enjoy the day.
