Has anyone taken a ferry from Sorrento to Amalfi or vice versa? How was the experience? We will be a party of five in July each with one small piece of hand luggage and thought that the ferry would be an enjoyable alternative to the bus which we will be using on our trip out of Amalfi. Any tips and experiences would be appreciated.

Have taken the ferry several times and it is much better than taking the bus (only took the bus once - then the ferry back). You are sitting on a deck chair in the open air enjoying the spectacular scenery. There are a couple of ferry lines and some make several stops on the way to Amalfi so the travel time can vary by quite a bit.

Yes,you can take the ferry. You can actually take the ferry from Sorrento to Amalfi, Positano, Naples, Capri. Did it two years ago. Its an inexpensive and beautiful way to get around in that area. Have a great time!
