Sorrento to Amalfi

Looking for suggestions on the best way (public transportation)to get to and enjoy a day in the Amalfi Coast from the villa we are staying at in Sorrento. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA Mike

You can take the SITA bus from the train station in Sorrento that drives along the Amalfi Coast and stops in several towns. You can also take a boat from Sorrento to Positano and/or Amalfi. You can take the bus one way, and a boat back. Or bus both ways, or boat both ways. Do you have the RS Italy book? Lotsa good info on how to do it in there. The open top Hop-On Hop-Off bus in Sorrento does a little of the AC. It's a wonderful, scenic ride the entire route and I recommend it, aside from your AC trip.

Buy a 24hr bus ticket (7.60 euro) for your Amalfi Coast trip. It includes a free one way ride on the open top bus between Amalfi and Ravello, you use the ordinary bus for the other journey. IMO the views on the return journey to Amalfi are better. http://www.unicocampania.it/?lang=it¢er=inside&colonna=turisti&action=costiera&banner=costiera Current bus timetables http://www.sitasudtrasporti.it/public/tpl/campania/5071.pdf http://www.sitasudtrasporti.it/public/tpl/campania/5110.pdf

It is not the cheapest but this past July we took a boat from Sorrento to Amalfi and back again. Loved seeing the towns from the boat. On a previous trip we took bus there and boat back.
