We are planning on staying in Sorrento for 5 nights - 4 full days with day trips to Capri, Positano & Amafi, and Pompeli, and one open day. Trying to decide if we should stay in town at Plazzo Tasso or up the hillside at Ill Nido. We will be there in June. any thoughts
Stayed at Il Nido and had no regrets.
Fabulous view--- even better than the pix and their webcam
We went back and forth on which area to stay and eventually picked Sorrento with no regrets.
We loved being out and about every evening and not stuck at our hotel. Taxis are available but not cheap, just from the train station to our hotel which was a 10 minute walk or 3 minute taxi ride cost us €24 on our arrival day. I can't imagine the cost for further out.
Used the shuttle service when we stayed there. (Left the rental car parked in their lot)
Dropped us off at a point that was an easy walk to train station.
il Nido has been my home base for about a dozen years. Dino and his brother Gianni go out of there way to be welcoming and helpful. The hotel is comfortable, has amazing views from the balcony (where you can have breakfast and dinner), the shuttle service into town is prompt and convenient. Breakfast is not to be missed. Every year I hear (and participate in) a discussion about hiding the orange juice machine in luggage. Dinner is so very special. INHO it is the best restaurant in Sorrento. The views, especially at sunset, are not to be missed. As darkness settles in, the Bay of Naples looks like it has a necklace of diamonds. I can't recommend il Nido enough!
Although I have not stayed at the Il Nido, it does sound very nice, and also very inconvenient. You have planned four full days of sightseeing in June when it is hot and crowded, and if it was me, I would want to be closer to the train/bus station and boat dock.
Thank you for the info. We will not have a car so it is definitely helpful to understand that transportation can be an issue - the time to get to places and the cost. We are going to stay downtown some where.
