Sorrento, Positano, Ravello

Suggestions on this plan......! Staying for a week in Sorrento after a RS Sicily tour. Want to see the Amalfi Coast, probably by bus but may consider a guide. If we take the bus how should far can we go? I understand you shouldn't get off as the next bus may be full! We will spend another day in Positano, maybe take the boat from Sorrento. How do you get to Ravello and how long does it take from Sorrento? We love small towns, scenery, Italian pottery, walking/hiking and just being with the locals. Any suggestions for what to see with a Sorrento home base would be greatly appreciated!

Rick Steves Italy, or his Snapshot: Naples and the Amalfi Coast, each have all the travel details for Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. Ravello is above the town of Amalfi, so you must take a bus (or taxi). The other towns are connected by boat, but check the frequency carefully.

Yes, I have the book but haven't read it cover to cover yet. Guess it had better get that on the top of my to do list!

Carolyn, If you like pottery than an absolute stop for you would be the village of Vietri sul Mare, the last stop on the Amalfi drive. Located right by Salerno, the town is picture perfect! Great shops, tons of pottery, great little beach where you can pick up shards and wonderful restaurants. Have a wonderful time,
Gerri

Now we have a plan! After seeing the Amalfi Coast, pottery shopping and lunch in village of Vietri sul Mare. Then hopefully a boat ride back to Sorrento unless seeing the scenery a second time by bus is better. We will to Poistano and Ravello on other day trips.

Carolyn, If you don't do Pompeii whilst you are so close, you'll surely regret it. As for being with the locals, we stayed in Maiori, and found it so much more local than the places like Amalfi, where tour buses drop 30 - 50 people off every 10 minutes. Cheers!

Yes, we are taking a day trip to Pompeii. Did you get a guide or go on your own with RS book - haven't decided yet which we will do.
