My husband and I will be in the Amalfi Coast area for 3 nights. I am trying to decide what city to stay in. Should I make Sorrento our home base for all of the nights and just do day trips or is it worth it to stay in Positano for at least one night?

Of the two, Sorrento is the preferred home base because of its easier access to transportation (for example, to Pompeii, Herculaneum, or Naples).
With only 3 nights, why go through the hassle of changing hotels?
Finally, if you want to see Positano, it's easily visited from Sorrento.
