Sorrento or Amalfi?

Hi! I am taking my daughter to Chambery, France this summer to study abroad. We thought we would take a trip to Italy before going over to Chambery. We have been to France before and Germany and even Florence. However we wanted to see Venice maybe for two nights, Florence for a night to see a couple of things we missed, and then maybe three days seeing the Amalfi coast. The main things we want to do there is the Amalfi drive and Capri for a day. Then we would have to take the train back up to France. Would we be better off being based in Sorrento, or should we just stay in Amalfi? We like touristy towns with lots of restaurants and cafes. Some say Sorrento is more fun, some say Amalfi. Any advice?

From what you have said, it sounds like you will like Sorrento better.
