Does anyone know what will be closed on April 25th (Italian Independence Day) in the Sorrento area. We were planning on taking the bus along the Amalfi coast to Positano and Amalfi but wondering if they will run. What about the sites at Pompeii or Hurculaneum? We were planning on Capri on Sunday, would that be better for the Holiday? Any help would be appreciated.

While this doesn't directly answer your questions, we were in the area over New Year's 2013. By almost all accounts, the Pompeii site would be closed on New Year's Day, but it turned out to be open for limited hours. They closed early, around 1 or 2 PM that day. Things might be different than expected, once you are there.

Pompeii and Herculaneum will be open, and the Circumvesuviana (train) to both will be running. You can check schedules here (your desired arrival station is Pompeii S Villa Misteri for Pompeii, and Ercolano Scavi for Herculaneum):

Ok. Thanks. That helps knowing we can shift to that if the buses don't run. I'm still scared from my first time in Italy while in the Navy in 1979. Took the train all the way from Genoa to Florence and never got to see the David because it was a holiday and the museum was closed. Didn't make it back until a year ago!
