Wife and I are in Sorrento right now, till Monday morn. Will rain tomorrow, Friday. Boats are not going out because of anticipation of rocky waters. What shall we do? Saturday should be a little better, but still rain is predicted for part of the day. Probably will go to Capris Saturday. For Sunday we booked a mini-van trip down the coast. What’s a good rainy day activity here?
Ravello has a pretty church, and a famous villa garden (which would be wet, of course.) But the great views will be misty.
A literal answer to your question would be Naples, where there are several important indoor attractions, including the Archaeology Museum. A few sites require advance registration. The less-visited ancient site Oplontis has several places under cover, but it's 0.5% of the size of Pompeii; it's near a Circumvesuviana stop. Similarly, Stabiae has some covered areas, but I haven't been there. Certainly take an umbrella.
A more ambitious daytrip would be to the palace of Caserta, but I haven't been there. That has gardens, but the main attraction is the castle interior.
going to Naples
Naples! It’s a city that gets largely passed by, now’s the time to explore. Archeological Museum will be a solid chunk. If you like paintings, take a taxi up to Museo Capodimonte. San Gennero catacombs are close by, though with the weather might be worth a taxi splurge even at short distance.
Thanks for your recos. Still not sure - but since I came to this region to see the Amalfi Coast, I think I’d rather see Positano on a rainy day than knock around Naples, even given I’ll be seeing Positano as part of the tour on Sunday. Will decide after a late breakfast. Mille grazie.
Whoops - sorry - I meant Ravello (or Positano too!)
