Sorrento / Naples / Southern Italy with kid

Hi,

We are planning a 9 day trip to southern Italy (in and out of Naples airport) with a 4 year old. I would love recommendations for things to do with a young child. We plan on at least doing a trip to Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii. Probably a guided trip to Capri. We have debated having a base in Naples or Sorrento. Food is tricky for us due to allergies (child), so any experience in Naples/Sorrento with allergies would also be appreciated.

Thanks!

You don’t need a guide for Capri. Get off the ferry, take the funicular up to the town center. Ask for walking directions to Giardini Agosto and Punta Tragara to get away from tourist crowds. Enjoy pedestrian pathways with sea views.
Mt. Vesuvius may be too difficult with a four year old.

I don't have any knowledge of Sorento, but If you stay in Naples, check out Hotel Piazza Bellini - many RS recommendations. We only stayed there one night, but they had a small toddler bed with a teddy bear quilt for our then 3 year old and she loved it. She also really liked walking around at Pompeii and jumping on various rocks. And we sat for a while on the rocks next to the marina on Capri while she got her feet wet. Would recommend water shoes or sandals that can get wet if you have them - the beaches in the area are all small pebbles.
