Sorrento, Naples, Amalfi... by ferry?

I'm sure this information is probably scattered around in various places; just trying to get one 'consolidated' answer... in mid-June, we are flying into Naples and have booked two nights in Sorrento, before returning to Naples and taking the train to Rome. It almost seems as though the ferries are faster... maybe even cheaper... than buses or trains... whether it's Naples to Sorrento and back, or Sorrento to Positano-Amalfi and back. I also saw one comment that you really don't see much on the Amalfi tour on the bus, even if you're sitting on the right side. Is picture taking difficult, if the windows do not roll down? Bus tickets are by time limit, and not distance? Sorry, I know that's a lot of different questions...

As you are coming in to Naples by air the easiest way to Sorrento is by the airport bus service. It terminates at Sorrento railway station from where you can walk, catch a bus or taxi for your onward journey to hotel. Cost 10 euro pp and pay the driver on boarding, no need to reserve.

For Naples to Sorrento, timing would be everything, some of the ferries would be faster, but they may not leave for a while yet. We found the ferries to be more expensive than the Circumvesuviana, but it was fun to do the train one way and the ferry the other. I would also look at doing the bus one way and the ferry the other for the Amalfi Coast. If you can manage it, a private driver is also great for the drive as they will stop and let you take pictures along the way and give you bits of information as you go.
