Sorrento March 2020

We are traveling from Paris to Sorrento March 12th. What suggestions do you have for travel: Paris to Naples or Rome, travel from each to Sorrento? We will be 4 or 5 days in Sorrento and plan day trips to Positano, hopefully by ferry, and a day trip to Pompei. Not sure about trip to Capri: day trip or overnight? Have to fly back to Paris on the 19th to fly home (Tennessee) on the 20th. All suggestions appreciated!

Paris to Naples for sure. In fact I will be at Naples airport tomorrow to fly out. Hopefully u can stay at least a day or 2 in Naples. The top sights there are blockbusters. Stay on Capri overnight if poss. It is magical, romantic and beautiful. But so is the entire amalfi coast.

Naples would clearly be much closer, so it just depends on your budget and flight availability.
From Naples, you can take a private driver or the Circumvesuviana commuter train. There are some direct airport buses operated by SITA, I'd check that as well.
I think ferries to the AC begin in April.
I'd consider having two nights on Capri, as a day trip has disadvantages.
Much will depend on how early you arrive as well as your departure time. I'd also consider booking last minute so if it's rainy you can just stay in Naples.

Here is the bus schedule from NAP airport to Sorrento. IF your schedule aligns, I see no reason for a private car, as it's a direct bus:

If you wanted to go to Capri first, then I would just take a taxi to the port for ease, but there are buses as well. Here is info on Naples to Capri ferries--note this is a consolidator and there is no reason to purchase from them and not the ferry company, but this site gives you links to both operators:

....and plan day trips to Positano, hopefully by ferry,

Ferries to Positano or some other locations around the Amalfi Coast are unlikely from Sorrento during the first half of March. Ferries DO run from there to Capri all year long unless the weather is too extreme to allow it. Because of it being off season, many shops and restaurants on Capri will be closed but some nice walks are still possible. Other shops and restaurants around the region will be closed as well.

And I'd recommend Paris to Napoli Centrale, and Circumvesuviana commuter train from there if coming in by rail.

If you're flying into Naples airport, take the Curreri bus to Sorrento:
