We're planning to use Sorrento as a base for 3-4 nights from which to visit Pompeii one day, do Amalfi Coast day hikes (we have the Sunflower hike book) for a couple days, and perhaps find some opportunity to play on the water. We'd like to stay in a kind of nice place in Sorrento, but not too expensive. Walking distance to town, not too modern are priorities. A small pool would be a huge plus. Recommendations anyone? Thanks!
Hi Betsy we leave for 13 days for Italy on Sunday, the last three days of april we are in Sorrento and we are booked with a tour so the hotel we are staying at is the Hotel Belair. I am not sure of rates there since it was all booked thru the tour company Queenslander Tours out of Colorado but this is one of the hotels they use in Sorrento, and it looks quite nice. Happy Travels

We've stayed at Hotel La Tonnarella 3 times for a week each time and love it.
Used to be a private villa. They have a beach with lounge chairs and umbrellas which we've really enjoyed. Bought large inner tubes and bobbed around in the Med - so fun. La Tonnarella has amazing views, nice rooms, private terraces or patios or balconies, great buffet breakfast, really good restaurant with outdoor dining in nice weather. Rooms have computers and free internet. Several terraces and lots of flowers. Easy 10 min walk to and from town.
Betsy, You might also consider Hotel Desiree, which is right next door to La Tonnarella (I believe they share the same beach). It's not as posh as Tonnarella, but the rooms are very clean and comfortable, and the staff are wonderful. There's a great rooftop terrace where you can enjoy a glass of Vino on the afternoon sun. Both hotels are kind of at the far end of town, but I didn't find the walk to be a problem. Happy travels!
The Hotel Plaza is just off Piazza Tasso so really near to everything. Recently refurbished with small rooftop infinity pool. The decor is modern but not overly so. Well reviewed on Tripadvisor. http://www.plazasorrento.com/
