I'll be staying in Sorrento for 4 nights and would appreciate any recommendations for a nice, centrally located hotel. Preferrably near or within sight of the water.

Magnificant views of the whole city and Mediterrean up the hill on Via Capo. We've enjoyed the Minerva and Settimo Cielo (very good prices with balconies). About a 15 minute walk up a hill but to us so worth it. If you go to www.tripadvisor.com you can see guests' pictures that they've posted of most hotels

We just did Sorrento this past November and highly recommend the Antiche Mura (Ancient Wall) Hotel. It is a short distance from the train station, no taxi necessary, about a block from Sorrento's main street AND close enough to stroll to the water. You will find this hotel to have superb service, very nice, clean rooms, a great breakfast and breakfast room with an adjoining garden. When you exit the hotel if you look to your right over the stone fence you will see a waterfall AND THE ANCIENT WALL! Check it out on venere.com
