If Weather forecasts are correct, we will be a week in rainy Sorrento. Heavy rain does put a damper on our plans to hike around. Any suggestions for us? Grazie, k
Wow, who is your weather person?
We did Pompeii in the rain.
Steve, how was Pompeii in the rain? Was it pouring? We don't mind--as if we have a choice. k
Will you cancel your visit if it rains? If no, just have a light raincoat with hood and an umbrella. It rained on us in Assisi and Venice. It didn't stop us in Assisi which was just as beautiful. We just stopped in more shops. In Venice, we were drenched. It was a warm rain and we were just fine.
Take a rain coat with a hood. take a compact umbrella and be prepared for rain.
We got stuck in Verona in a DOWN POUR. We waited it out with the locals and watched the South Africans suddenly appear with tons of umbrellas for sale.
Wanted to see the Colloseum, since we waited, we got in for 1/2 price...the tourists all left!
In Sorrento, if you get rain, do a bit of shopping, or find a great cafe to sit and sip coffee or eat gelato.
The rain will pass and you will have a wonderful time.
That's why cafes have awnings...
We had rain last June. On the heaviest rainy day we took the hydrofoil to Naples. We walked up to the Museum sampling Pastries, going through the old sector where I bought some lovely sun-dried tomatoes and had a great time. See RS's walk. The rain did lighten once I broke down and bought umbrellas but alot of stores had awnings also. We loved the Museum including the basement where they have some great non-Pompeii artifacts. The taxi back to the harbor wasn't the greatest though. Weather reports aren't always reliable. A few years ago though we got nasty weather in the French countryside so we went to Paris sooner which had more to offer.
Just be advised that when it rains, the locals who would ordinarily be riding mopeds or scooters are now driving cars or taking taxis and buses and the traffic becomes snarled and almost impossible to get a taxi.
