Sorrento in December

We have one week booked at an apartment in Sorrento the first week of December. Could you please suggest some day trips or fun things to do in town? We will not have a car. Are there any cooking schools?
Thanks!

The Circumvesuviani train will take you to Pompeii, Herculaneum and Naples, all good day trips. There are buses to Ravello and Positano. Ferry to Capri if the weather's nice.

We did this in Dec 2011. It was a lovely week. Ideas: - Pompeii takes the better part of a day; We had the place practically to ourselves, with a guide. It was 45 degrees, sunny and deserted. I highly recommend having a guide. - Naples takes a whole day. Follow the Rick Steves self-guided tour, stating at the Archeological Museum. Do this before Pompeii. - Herculeneum (Ercolano) takes a half day. Interesting contrast to Pompeii. - Busride to Amalfi Town. We never even had time to stop in Positano, but that's a possibility. We enjoyed walking between Amalfi Town adn Atrani. See R.S. book for the route. Takes 15-20 minutes.
- Sorrento is charming and worth most of a day itself. Again, R.S. has a self-guided tour. Capri was not an option for us. Transportation there was weather dependent and not very frequent at that time of year. You can go up Vesuvius if you have a mind too .
