Does anyone have any suggestions on a nice, reasonably priced hotel in Sorrento? Thank you.
Sofia, Could you be more specific regarding "reasonably priced"? You might have a look at This Hotel. It's more "basic" rather than luxurious, but the rooms are very comfortable and the staff are wonderful. They have a great rooftop terrace where you can enjoy a glass of Vino in the Amalfi sun. When arriving with luggage, I'd suggest taking a Taxi from the station, as it's a bit of a walk. Once I was situated at the Hotel, I didn't have any problems walking into town (it only takes 10-minutes or so). Happy travels!
You can use Google Maps Streetview to take a virtual walk from that hotel into town to see if it looks like something you'd want to do in the evening.
Sofia Have not been to Sorrento since 2006. We drove in Italy so were able to stay at a place called Il Nido. It is high above Sorrento but the view is to die for. Also they do have a restaurant and pool on the premises and we ate on the balcony and enjoyed the view of Naples across the by for 2 of our nights. Breakfast and dinner were great. They do have a shuttle service into town during the day up to 11PM and if you pre arrange a time for pick up at the station I am sure they can accommodate. Check out Il Nido as well as the other suggestions.
It really depends on the time of year you travel. Expect prices to be higher May to Sept with peaks in July and August. Without a budget and time of year it is difficult to suggest where you could stay. Il Nido does not have a pool but the La Vue D'Or further up the hill on the same road does. Depending on the time of year the lack of a pool may not be an issue because the majority of hotel pools are not heated and therefore not so enticing in cooler weather!
I stayed at the Il Roseto Resort (B&B) last September. The rooms were new and immaculately clean. It's a gated property and there is also private parking if you are renting a car.
Sofia - Have booked for early June the Hotel Il Nido which looks great, has good reviews and very reasonable I thought at 160 euros for family room.
I'll post review when we return.
You may also want to check out Hotel Sorrento City... http://www.sorrentocity.com/ We've stayed at La Tonnarella three times and love it, it's next to Hotel Desiree, but Hotel Sorrento City is less expensive and next time we go we may stay there instead.
Look at the Sorrento City hotel, on a street that becomes pedestrian-only in the afternoon and evening. Well located between Sorrento's main square and the Circumvesuviana train and bus station. A supermarket, many other stores, and restaurants just steps away. A small three-story hotel, with friendly, efficient, English-speaking staff. Neat, clean rooms, some with balconies above the street, plus a terrace with drink service. Rates vary with the season. Right now, about $150 including breakfast.
Thank you for your replies, I will look up and consider each suggested.
