Sorrento Hotel Recommendations

My wife and I will be in Sorrento from May 28 until June 1 and was wondering if anyone has some personal hotel experiences that they can recommend.

Thanks, Phil

Look at www.tripadvisor.com for Sorrento for thousands of hotel reviews. Personally, we stayed at the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori which is perched on the cliff overlooking the sea. It was a snazzy place and was not cheap...sorry to say. I highly recommend it. We got a better price on www.laterooms.co.uk rather than booking directly with the hotel.

If you want great views and don't mind having to take a bus to get anywhere, stay along the coast south of town. I like staying in centrally located hotels so I can indulge my love of walking everywhere and getting up early to walk to my first capuccino of the day. Rick Steves Italy book has some good suggestions--I've stayed at several of them. Hotel Nice is closest to the train station. Several others are along the main street and easily within walking distance of most of the town.

We stayed in Sorrento in July of 2005 and 2006, both times at Hotel La Tonnarella, a RS recommendation. We absolutely love it. It's in his Italy book for more info and the website.

We are staying at the Hotel Il Nido in Sorrento this summer, and have read really great things. There's even a discount on rates for Rick Steves readers.

We stayed at Il Nido in November 2006 and can highly recommend it. Convenient shuttle to downtown and pick up at the train station

We stayed at Casa Astarita Bed & Breakfast last summer and it was adorable (on of Rick's reccomends). it can be a little lud at night as it is off the main street but we found it fun to watch the activity from our little balcony.

Casa Astarita is great and right down town. We have stayed twice at the Hotel Desiree up to hill out of town and it too was wonderful. Both are Rick Steves recommended places and are just great.
