Sorrento Ferry

Going to Ischia from Sorrento and back; probably the Alilauro ferry company (as thats the only one i see running).
Is it necessary to buy tickets on the ferry in advance; or can I just buy them when in Sorrento?

I have not taken the ferry to Ischia nor purchased through the Alilauro web site. Buying ferry tickets on the spot is common in the region, so I would feel fairly confident about doing that at the end of September. If you're staying overnight on Ischia, then I'd also ask the opinion of your hotel or host.
