My wife and I plan on traveling to Italy mid-to-late July for 2 weeks. Is the following trip doable: Arrive in Naples, train to Sorrento, stay in Sorrento for 6 nights, train to Cinque Terre region, stay for 4 nights, train to Bellagio area, stay for 3 nights, fly home from Milan.
Sure. Why not. Just consider the travel time between your destinations. Naples to Sorrento is a couple of hours depending on how you get there (bus, bus/train, bus/ferry). Sorrento to the Cinque Terre will take about 6-7.5hrs with multiple train changes depending on the run you choose. The Cinque Terre to Bellagio will take about 4.5-5.5hrs again depending on the run you choose.
Thanks for the reply, Larry. This is our tentative plan while using Sorrento as our southern base: take a day trip to Naples, a day trip to Pompeii, a day trip to Capri, and a day trip or two to the Amalfi Coast (seeing Amalfi, Positano and Ravello). We have considered living dangerously and renting scooters for a trip from Sorrento to the Amalfi Coast or take a ferry, or both on different days to see the land from different viewpoints. In the Lakes region, we would like to stay in Bellagio but are open to Varenna. Do you have any suggestions for places to stay in each region, including the Cinque Terre, and for other things to see/do? Thanks,
Bobby
Hi Bobby. Consider buying the Rick Steves Italy book. It will answer your questions and add greatly to your trip and trip planning. Enjoy!
Thanks, Bob. I have read much of it and plan to read more.
Hi Bobby! Well it may depend on your interests, fitness levels, etc but we loved Ravello. You can hike to Amalfi for the hydro foil to Positano, Capri, etc. We are going to BellGio this year and staying at borgo le terrazze. Never been before but we are excited. :)
