sorrento-cinque terra-rome itinerary

Hi all, we are going to Italy from Septembre 17 to 27. We have 10 days and 10 nights. We have been to Tuscany, Florence, Pisa and Venice on a previous trip 4 years ago. We want to go to Rome this time, and i really want to go to Cinque Terra, I added sorrento/pompéi because i want to see it too and don't think we will be going back to Italy for a while. So far my itineray is 3 nights in Sorrento, 3 nights in Cinque Terra (taking a cheap flight from Naples to Genova or a long train ride) and ending in Rome for 4 nights. We arrive in Rome on the morning of the 17 and depart early morning on the 27 on a points flight so open jaw is not an option.
I am not sure if we should end with Rome as it can be exhausting from what i read but that would mean we lose a night somewhere since i have to be back near the airport on the 26 at nigh.
I would really appreciate any feedback on this itinerary, or any good or bad experiences on theses destinations.
Thanks!
Martine

Try Air One for discounted flights from Naples to Genoa.

Sounds like a decent plan. Using Sorrento as a base to see the Amalfi coast is a great idea. I highly recommend taking the ferry to the various towns. I still think of that trip often. I kind of question 3 nights in The Cinque Terra, it's a wonderful place but it's charms can be had in 2 days. I might use a day elsewhere, maybe Chivita??As for Rome, I can never understand how people can say that Rome is exhausting, mindblowing maybe. It's over the top. There is something wonderful almost around every corner.

Your intinerary is OK. On your cheap flight from Naples to Genoa, I don't see any on the cheap flight websites. I do see cheap flights to Milan from Naples but that's 4.0hrs away from the CT by airport bus and train from Milan. Its a 7.0hr train ride from Naples to Monterosso. But, if you take the ICPlus train, the fare is 44Euro. Not bad. CLICK HERE to see what I see on the train schedule. There are earlier and later trains.

We just came back from 2 weeks all Italy. I'm so glad that we ended with Rome, the grandest for last. Schedule Pompeii Scavi either very early or later in the day to avoid the crowd, particularly the huge groups from cruises. Maybe September won't be so bad.

As a Canadian with a Canadian credit card, you may be able to buy in advance with a Verified by Visa credit card or the Mastercard equivalent. I used to be able to use my American credit card but Trentialia no longer accepts them. I've read that some Canadians have been successful. If not, there is no hope of getting any special fares on the Trenitalia website. You can get tickets from Rail Europe and Italia Rail but they are ticket brokers and the tickets are more expensive. You can easily buy when you first arrive. You can try for the discounts on the electronic ticket machine and if any are still available, you can get them. But, it's not too likely as these limited tickets go early.

Try your credit card on Trenitalia. You'll need to register with both them and the new special websites for Visa or Mastercard. I sure would like to know if you can be successful.
