Sorrento-Capri ferries - do they run daily in November?

Hello,

We are hoping to spend a night or 2 in Sorrento in November so that we can easily visit Pompeii, but would also like to visit Capri if the weather cooperates. I think the ferry schedule is only posted for the current week. From reading old posts, it looks like the ferries do run and most hotels in Sorrento are open in November, but wanted to confirm with anyone who might have more recent experience. We don't have a lot of flexibility with our travel time -will be there Thanksgiving week.

Thanks!

You can check a website called OK Ferry. I don't believe they have any schedules up yet for that late in the year. They are a third party, so if you book with them, they will be a few dollars more. That time of year though, I would purchase tickets when I show up. It will strictly be weather dependent on when the Ferries are running, and you don't want to be stuck with a ticket(s) you won't be able to use. We went to Capri a week ago, and it was nice, but I enjoyed the A/C just as much. You might consider just wandering around Positano instead if you can't get a ferry. Another couple of websites to check out are Capri.com and Positano.com. They will also have links to the Ferry schedules.

Just a side note: I just read that the Ferries stop running the End of November. So you might take that into consideration. Not sure about the hydrofoils or where they launch from. Hopefully someone else can give you more details.

**If you do choose to visit Positano, I would suggest getting your return Sita bus ticket when you purchase your outbound from Sorrento. Makes it easier than looking for one while you're there.

The boats - mostly high-speed, which is what you'd want to take anyway - run from Sorrento and Naples to Capri all year. They HAVE to as residents on the island need access to the mainland. They just don't have as many runs as during high season. It's service to/from other points along the Amalfi (Positano, Amalfi, etc.) that stops roughly from November - March or mid-May.

Service can be cancelled if the weather is bad enough to make a crossing hazardous, and they don't run after dark but if you're staying in Sorrento for a few days, you shouldn't have a problem making a trip to the island on a nice day. Besides, Capri wouldn't be any fun on a foul-weather day!

The best part of the island, IMHO, is just walking/hiking about and taking in the scenery so if you're good with exploring on foot, then I think you'll have a very pleasant day. The trek to Villa Jovis is highly recommended....

....as is the Pizzolungo walk:

Take the little bus up to Anacapri and the chairlift to the top of Mt Solaro:

Anyway, lots of fun walking (some of it can be a bit strenuous) and gazing to be had on Capri! Ignore the tours touted on the website: you don't need them. Just do a little reading before the trip, pick up a map at the tourist info center when you get there, and off you go!

Editing to add: Capri.net and Capri.com are essentially duplicate websites.
