Sorrento and the Amalfi coast tour.

Hi all….we’re planning to be in Sorrento Italy in early April 2024 and would like to do an Amalfi coastline tour…..thinking about maybe by driver with small van/bus one-way (stopping at various towns) and coastline boat ride the other. We are a party of 4 adults. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks.

We did this last month with the Montetti Taxi (Mercedes Benz van) and the driver was great! It's pricey (380 euros) but totally worth it. Our guide stopped in Amalfi for an hour and then took us up to Ravello for a few more hours. He made reservations at the most incredible restaurant in Italy! The views! The food! So extraordinary. He also had to drive us all the way around, via Sorrento to drop us off in Positano because of highway maintenance.
Two days later we had to take the SITA bus back to Sorrento to catch the train to Rome and it was AWFUL!! We were both so very sick to our stomachs, despite having ginger chews, etc. It was standing room only, hot & humid, and the little bus makes you feel all the curves. Huge difference between that and the Mercedes Benz van with A/C.
Fun fact: Rick Steves still has a relationship with the elder Monetti (grandpa)...and the grandson told us lots of fun stories about grandad driving Sophia Lauren, etc. He says Rick Steves STILL calls his grandpa every year at Christmas time. The grandson and his sister do most of the van tours and have excellent English. With a phenomenal Italian accent. We really enjoyed our time with him.
Keep in mind the boats can be cancelled due to rain (that happened to us in October, even though it was barely raining). Have a back-up plan ready to go if the Italians decide they don't want to work that day (haha...tongue in cheek, but that's how it felt).

One more thing……although it sounds like the trip never happened what boat/excursion company did you book?
Thanks, again!

I took the tour boat down the coastline in September. Can't remember the company name, for my hotel booked it and the company picked me up at the hotel. Obviously much cheaper than a car tour. But it was comfortable, and you can see the whole coastline plus all the towns along the way right in front of you. Two-hour stops in both Amalfi Town and Positano, which is usually enough considering the crowds, then back to Sorrento.

Thanks for the info. Looks like it’s definitely doable!

You can book the ferries through Direct Ferries. Easy to book online. They have many departures each day to the Amalfi towns. Positano is lovely but it's a hike up that hill! Not a lot to do other than gawk at the beauty. Amalfi is easier on the lungs and if you can get up to Ravello that's very lovely with great views.

Since the road to these places is two lanes and can be very crowded with traffic, we suggest the Ferry each way. The ride is beautiful, and a lot of fun, and makes for great pictures. You are not far offshore, and it's fun to see all the folks on the water with their fancy yachts and boats. The only downer on the Ferries is if it's inclement weather or rough seas. Then they will not run. You can book your seats the day of or the day before, therefore you will know what the weather is going to be. Have fun!
