After finishing our RS Tour in May, we are spending 4 nights in Sorrento. What is the recommended way from Sorrento to Rome and what hotel near the airport do you recommend? We have an early morning flight.

Want to finish your vacation in a special way? Take the ferry from Sorrento to Naples. Then taxi to the train station and take the Freccia to Roma Termini. Sorry, I have no hotel recommendations near the airport. I always stay in the city, play late and take an early taxi to FCO.
Why the ferry? It's a relaxing ride (much better than the train), with beautiful scenery filled with wonderful memories.

I'd book a Private driver to Napoli Afragola Station, then an high speed train to Rome.
There are not many high speed trains calling at Afragola, it isn't like Napoli Centrale where there is a train to Rome every 50 minutes or so. You'd better look up the train schedules of both companies before you arrange with the driver the departure hour from Sorrento.
I'd pick an hotel near Termini, unless you are flying home before 7 AM. In that case I'd stay at the Hilton inside the airport.

Another option is Circumvesuviana or Campania express train to Naples then fast train to Rome

SH: I will be finishing up the RS Tour in May and heading down to Sorrento also. I'm using Mondo Tour guide and driver to enjoy the Amalfi Coast. I am using Mondo Tours for transfer from Rome hotel to Sorrento apartment Round Trip for two reasons: It's faster due to my brief AC visit and prevent possible exposure to covid. I prefer the train and will use it during less stressful times.
I'm staying at the Hilton hotel at the airport.
