2 couples in mid 50s looking for recommendations for a place to rent for a few night in Sorrento with a sea-view balcony.
thank you
We recently stayed at Hotel Plaza in Sorrento (9/21-9/27) and it was fabulous! The location was great and although it was close to Piazza Tasso with lots of activity there, the soundproof windows kept our room quiet at night. It was very convenient to the train/bus station and center of Sorrento. They have a rooftop infinity pool with glass fence that is incredible and also a rooftop bar. There was a jazz saxophonist up there one evening and it was fabulous. The room was beautiful, the bed very comfortable and the breakfast was incredible. This room was above our normal budget, but Sorrento is expensive and we felt that our choice was well worth it! When we return to Sorrento, we will definitely stay there again!
Regina Hotel may be an option. We are booked there in March 2018. They have a few rooms that face the gulf and rates are less.

I cannot believe it has been 11 years since we have been to Sorrento. It was our first trip and we stayed at Il Nido which is above Sorrento. We drove but I do know that they will pick you up at the train station and they have a shuttle bus down to Sorrento (5 Miles)that runs all day and into the evening. It has spectacular views from the restaurant balcony where we ate two of our meals. The restaurant is very good and the hotel is quiet. It was given consideration this next trip but we have opted for the heel of Italy this time. Check it out.
A 2nd vote for Il Nido-- stayed there and loved it
check out the webcam-- the real life view is even better
Hi, I can not reccomend Villa Monica B&B high enough. It's my happy place in this world . Check it out to see if it meets your needs.
I'm sure the four of you will enjoy Sorrento very much!
3rd vote for Il Nido, have stayed there twice, most recently in 2012. Rates are very reasonable, rooms basic but comfy, staff are very friendly, restaurant reasonable in price and delicious, breakfast is good, views over the bay spectacular
For a family of 6 with three days in Sorrento. Any suggestions for places to stay near the center? Two of our 4 kids are under 8 & 7 and the older two are 15 and 13. Thanks!!
We stayed at this site's host (Rick Steves) recommended "Worthwhile splurge", Grand Ambasciatori. This is above the price range most posters here are willing to pay. But because we reserved less than six months in advance, our first six choices were fully booked! We paid extra for a stunning over-the-water (not just "water view") balcony, with a soaking pool on the balcony. This hotel is directly on the cliff, with a (internal elevator) private swimming platform in the gulf, with a bar and chaises and umbrellas. There was a slight problem with seagulls roosting on the balcony, and the ferry whistles are audible, despite soundproof windows. We had a million dollar view FROM our bed, with electric windowshades to raise them without getting out of bed. The hotel also has American-ly arctic air conditioning, which is important to us in season.
We enjoyed the walk back from downtown each evening. This is a local group of five LUXURY hotels, but since the Ambasciatori has a pool, and a cliffside, shady dining/drink terrace, there was no need to go to the other hotels for whatever services might be available to guests within the hotel group. This hotel is relatively far from the Circumvesuviana station, but we're big walkers anyway. It's on a relatively quiet street, but the land-view rooms don't look at anything particularly desirable.
1 couple in mid 50s. We stayed at Hotel Tonnarella May 2018. It is just outside town (to the west?) and requires a walk to town (but not too bad). We had a balcony with clear view of Vesuvius and Marina Grande. The price was a little high, but reasonable when compared to other Sorrento hotels. You'd probably want to taxi from the train station with luggage, but the rest of the time, just walk, it was lovely!!.
Another vote for il Nido! BUT, there's a change. Evidently the city won't let the hotel shuttles go to the train station any more (at least not the last 2 or 3 years). If your luggage isn't too awkward the walk to the shuttle is flat, interesting and pretty short. The local bus will also take you there directly from the train station but don't count on the driver knowing to stop at the hotel. I made the mistake of taking a taxi once - at the cost of a really top notch dinner. Which, by the way, you'll get at il Nido at a lesser price than the taxi. :)
We just happened upon this thread. We cannot believe we booked a triple room - only 2 of us but who cares - for 750 euros for 5 nights! Balcony sea view too ! Since we are originally from New York - and automatically skeptical - we want to know what the catch is.
I guess there is no satellite TV - it refers only to a flat screen - and the rooms look simple - but we had booked the Hotel Belair for 1700 euros ! Both at a cancellation rate. We are not very good I guess in seeking out good value accommodations.
How can it be so inexpensive with a balcony sea view in Sorrento?? Are there balcony sea views that are not really that good? You know...off to the side and you get a quarter view?
This should fulfill your need for a sea view balcony.
