Sorrento accommodations

Any recommendations for a B&B or apartment in Sorrento? Our family, including 2 adult children, will be staying in Sorrento in May, 2009 for 3 or 4 nights. We would like something in or near the historic district, and have looked online at Casa Astarita, Palazzo Starace, Relais Amore, and Hotel Mignon Meuble. We would appreciate any itinerary and lodging tips. Thanks

Stacie,

I was in Sorrento in May and stayed at Hotel Desiree. It's a bit outside the "historic district" but it's not a difficult or lengthy walk to the main part of town. The Hotel is somewhat "basic", but certainly clean and comfortable and there's a wonderful rooftop terrace (perfect for enjoying the afternoon sun). Finally, the owners are incredibly helpful and great to deal with.

If you're interested, check This for details.

Happy travels!

Casa Astarita is a fun, interesting place to stay. Very casual, clean and good size rooms with unique layouts and modern design. The best thing is its location, just a few blocks from Piazza Tasso. GREAT location...and good price. But absolutely contact them and make clear that you do NOT want the room adjacent/above the bar next door--or get ready to be blown away by the music until 2 AM each night! The other rooms hear nothing. Astarita has a nice breakfast room/spread, too...with a fridge for taking water/snacks to go whenever you want.

We stayed at the Mignon Meuble in September of this year and were quite happy. It is a simple hotel and a good value. The room we had was comfortable, quiet and had a balcony overlooking the street. The room and bath were cleaned perfectly every day we were there. A pleasant little breakfast is included. There is a "rooftop" terrace with seating. Free internet was available and the staff were friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. It is very convenient to the town and close to the Corso, Piazza Tasso, and restuarants and shopping, as well as the train station. We'd return to this hotel without hesitation. You can easily travel to Pompeii just 45 minutes away by frequent train, and to Herculaneum too. The tourist information office can provide boat schedules for the surrounding area and there are many options for day trips along the coast. We opted to forgo the road and travel by boat and enjoyed it a lot. Good luck and have a great time.
