Soriano nel Cimino w/car, Taste-Tour-Buy wine

Our dream was to taste wine at the Vineyard, buy it and ship it home. Unfortunately, we did not do a whole lot of preplanning to make that happen and we are now here in Soriano Nel Cimino for several days.

any suggestions for wineries in an hour's drive where this could happen? Is our plan realistic? Any Suggested alternatives?

Hope you get some suggestions but in the meantime, I would think that some of the locals would be good resources. Have you asked around?

Also, make sure your state (if you're from the U.S.) allows legal import as not all of them do, and other have restrictions. As an alternative (shipping, when allowed, is expensive), ask the winery if their wines are imported/distributed in the U.S. and retail outlets where they may be available.

Here is a suggested alternative: don't do it. Realistically, wine distribution globally is a huge business and you can get nearly anything from anywhere locally. Yes, it's great to taste a wine and have some for another time and reminisce. But, the expense of the wine (no bargains at wineries), shipping, the odds of breakage, etc outweigh that. And, like so many do, you will likely find the wine tasted a whole lot better at the winery. Tasting at a winery is 50% wine, 50% atmosphere. If you like something, buy a bottle, have it at the hotel. Then when you are home talk to your local quality wine store, tell them what you tasted (better yet snap a pic of the label) and chances are the purveyor will have something that meets or exceeds what you tasted.
