Hopefully you are aware of the congestion in the area and the difficulty of moving around and getting anywhere.

We stayed at La Magnolia BnB just off the main square and about a 15 minute walk from the train/bus station.
When will you go? We were there at the beginning of November and transportation was a challenge. It was relatively easy to get a seat on the bus in the morning in Sorrento. It was quite difficult to get back to Sorrento late afternoon from Amalfi. We stood on the bus for an hour long ride home.

Sorrento. ( note spelling)
It is a very nice town set up high overlooking the sea. Not much beach. There are buses to the Amalfi Coast.

@Gunderson, I should have said " personal recommendations". Some posters say they prefer personal recommendations over guide book references. But of course, your right!
