Some fine-tuning questions for my Nov 3-4 weekend in Rome

Thanks so much for the help in my previous post (21-yr old son and mom spending a weekend in Rome on the heels of mom's biz trip). I would appreciate a little help on logistics as I'm not sure how best to organize a few things. The plan that is set is:

Friday, Nov 2: Dinner res at Colline Emiliane for 7:30pm, after which we wander and see Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps and catch a cab back to the hotel (Rome Cavalieri).

Sat, Nov 3: Catch an early cab to St. Peter's Bascilica to arrive ~7:30am. I expect we will finish after climbing the dome by 9:30am. We are free until our 5:45 Twilight Trastevere Food Tour.

Sun, Nov 4 (First Sunday of the month--some sights free and expected to be Crowded!): Catch a cab to the Pantheon to arrive ~8:30am. We are free until our 5pm reservation at Borghese Gallery.

I would like help figuring out when to do the following: Colosseum tour (RS audio), Campo de Fiori market, Forum/Palatine Hill. I guess I'm trying to weigh where the Free Sunday crowds will have the most impact. My RS book says the Colosseum/Forum/PH close at 4:30pm with last entry at 3:30.

I'd appreciate your thoughts!

Hi Dawn,
I'm not sure what the timing is like for you before your dinner reservation at Colline Emiliane on November 2nd, but it might make sense to visit the Spanish steps before dinner. Then, after dinner you could walk to the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and end at Campo de' Fiori. (The nearest taxi stand is at Largo Argentina, but perhaps you could call a taxi or order an Uber if you don't feel like walking at that point.) Whether you do this, or stick with the original plan, it will be a late night with an early start the next morning.

Since you are planning on visiting the Pantheon on Sunday morning, it might make sense to combine the Pantheon with Piazza Navona and Campo de' Fiori, since those are all nearby to each other. Then perhaps you could just do the Trevi Fountain after your Colline-Emiliane dinner reservation -- or Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps, if you're not planning on doing the Spanish Steps before dinner -- as that would make it less of a late night.

Personally, I would avoid sights that are free on a Sunday because of the crowds. Rick's Rome or Italy guidebooks give more insight into the planning of visits to different sites, and it actually sounds like a consultation appointment might be helpful for you. Happy travels!
