Some advice when buying Last Supper tickets at official site...

Hi all,

Just wanted to share something I learned while buying my CENACOLO VINCIANO Last Supper tickets this early morning. When you go to the official website at VIVATICKET -- http://www.vivaticket.it/index.php?nvpg[tour]&id=744 -- you need to purchase your INGRESSI entrance ticket (12 Euros) AND AUDIOGUIDE (3.5 Euros) together for the same date and time to be able to check out your online purchase.

BUT... if your visit (like mine at 9:30 am) coincides with the guided tour , you will need to add in the VISITE GUIDATE CENACOLO (tour guide) purchase INSTEAD of the AUDIOGUIDE. In my hurry to buy tickets (which I really didn't need to, considering the November offseason), I ended up buying all three of them -- ie., entrance ticket, audioguide and tour guide. For two people. Doh.

Not a big deal, since it's a very cheap; it's only 3.5 Euros per audioguide and 3.5 Euros per tour guide, so I overpaid 7 Euros -- which I'm happy to just give to the museum anyways as a small donation. Much better than some of the high-priced tours out there. Still, just some advice for those experiencing any difficulties with the official ticket website, in case this hasn't been mentioned here before... :)

Thanks for the heads up, I did not know that.

Math is not my strong suit, but if you wanted one of the two add-ons but paid for both, you overpaid by €3.50, not €7?

I had to buy two admissions (me and my mother), and that came out to the 2 entrance tickets (2x12 Euros), 2 audioguide tickets (2x3.5 Euros) and the 2 tour guide tickets (2x3.5 Euros). So the excess was 7 Euros, hehe . That's fine though; I'm glad it'll go towards the upkeep of the museum. Besides, tours (like Viator) are crazy expensive and come out to 3-4 times the price of buying direct... :)

I share your opinion that overpaying by a few Euros is a nice way of donating to the maintenance and upkeep of the sites we are privileged to see. I look at paying a Euro for light on a painting or putting a few coins in the poor box as a small gesture in support of this country which has such treasures for us to enjoy.

You are right, the private-company tours are pricey. Ther's another option, a ticket broker which may mark up 100% of the ticket price, but sometimes in a pinch it is convenient.

How far in advance should you buy tickets for getting into this museum? How many people do they allow in at once? We are hoping to go to Florence the last week of April next year. Is it difficult to find this location when taking the train into Florence? We have never been to Florence. Thanks.

Zoe: I agree. If you're making last minute plans and were not able to book ahead, then higher-priced third-party tours are your only recourse. And for me, spending the extra money is worth the convenience and fewer headaches. After all, you're on vacation! :)

allofus2: the CENACOLO VINCIANO last supper exhibit is in Milan not Florence, so you'll need to make plans to go to Milan if you're planning a visit. My November plans consist of 2 nights in Milan, 2 nights in Florence and 3 nights in Venice. Now, since you'll be in Florence, you might want to consider doing what I keep hearing from other people -- doing the Tuscany 12-hour bus tour from Walkabout. It's the #1 rated tour on TA and should be booked direct on the walkabout site to save on excess fees. Or if you're so inclined, maybe take a cooking class (which is usually paired with a tour of the local food market)...

Oops. Thanks pembriar. Didn't realize where the Last Supper was located. I should have known this. Yes, I am definitely planning a guided tour one day of wine and food tasting. I'm sure we will have lots to see and do in Florence when we go for the day. Definitely want to see David. That's in Florence, right? I assume we can purchase tickets in advance? Thanks.

Hi allofus2:

The famous statue of David is in the Accademia Gallery in Florence, and the gallery tickets (purchased direct from the museum) are 18.50 Euros (12 + 6.50 service fee) per person per visit. You'll need to specify the exact date and time of your visit. Guided tours through third parties are more expensive but could make the experience more fulfilling.

Or if you're planning to hit multiple museums, you might want to get the Firenze card which gives you 72-hours priority access (no reservations needed) to go in and out of 72 museums scattered across Florence. My elderly mother might want to go to 1-2 museums at most, so in our case it wouldn't be worth it. But for art lovers and historians, it's a fantastic deal.
