Solo traveler in Venice

I will have 4 days on my own in Venice. Looking for a bed and breakfast. I am a 68 year old woman, who is relatively adventurous, but would like to be in a safe, walkable area. Any recommendations

I stayed at In a central area of Venice, Hotel Serenissima on a Rick Steves Tour. It is very close
to San Marcos Square and I felt very safe walking all over the area by myself.
There are also some small restaurants near by.
Happy Travels.

My daughter stayed at Al Campianel b&b a couple of years ago, and it worked well for her. The area is OK, walkable (but all of Venice is walkable and safe), and it is easy to find from the San Toma vaporetto stop. (Walk the only route, turn left at the tee intersection, then about ten metres on your left.)

I know the area well, have walked pas there dozens of times. Close to the Frari, five minutes to Ca' Rezzonico, 15 or 20 to the Guggenheim, 30 to San Marco.

We stayed at al campaniel 3 times and would have stayed a fourth in 2014 but my mom was with us and their bigger room was already booked. It is super easy to find. I never really had an issue with any of the areas we roamed in Venice...once the day trippers leave, it gets pretty quiet. I never felt nervous...but then again, my husband was with me. But I still think I would be ok to roam on my own and not be nervous (coming from the person who got up at 3am last year in Paris to walk to the Eiffel Tower to see the blood moon/eclipse!).

Marco at al campaniel is really nice. The prices were good (we had the same room all three times..with a separate across the hall, but private bathroom). About a 10-15 min walk to Rialto I think. And if I can convince hubby to return to Venice in 2018 for carnivale, I'll rebook campaniel if I can!

I like Hotel Tivoli which is also in the San Toma area. It is family-run, friendly, comfortable. A generous breakfast is included. The Frari Church is a few minutes walk away. The area has restaurants, a university, and shops. I've stayed there a couple of times and will return next time I'm in Venice.

I've stayed in convents/monasteries in Venezia a few time, there is usually a curfew (around midnight). All stays were about €70-80/single. It was a nice way to meet other guests at breakfast, or in the common areas.

I found them through monasterystays.com, which charges a deposit and small fee, and sends you email confirmation (several documents, keep them all).

I stayed at Locanda Fiorita, around the corner from Piazza San Stefano. It's maybe a 10 minute stroll (with so many people it's hard to do much else) to either Rialto or San Marco, and 5 minutes to Accademia bridge. The vaporetto stop is Sant'Angelo, and if you aren't traveling too heavy, then it's not a bad walk. It's just out of the way enough to not be too crowded, but still has enough people to feel safe. San Stefano has restaurants and a gelato place, and there are a couple places to eat behind the hotel too. (The bar closes up early enough so noise isn't a problem), It's not super fancy, but the room was comfortable, the staff is helpful and speak enough English, and the breakfast is probably typical of Italy, but it's good. If the weather is nice, you can sit at a table outside to eat. I stayed in a single room with shared bath, but it was only shared with the staff so no waiting around in the morning for a shower. They do have private baths as well.

I was there on my own and never felt unsafe. You're there long enough, so enjoy walking around and checking out places like Cannaregio that are less busy with day-trippers. I walked through there with a Venetian and she said that's where a lot of locals go for a drink. Good place to practice Italian! Have fun!

We really enjoyed Casa Rezzonico on our fourth trip to Venice, in the Dorsoduro district. Here are some photos I took of it in May 2013 and the area around it, in case you're interested:

Casa Rezzonico is a good call. Very easy to find from the Ca' Rezzonico vap stop, and with no bridges to cross. Campo Sn Barnaba, which you would cross, has a couple of good bars - we have had coffee and croissant many times at the Ai Artisti, and the staff are pleasant.

(Walk up the only street from the Ca Rezzonico vap stop, diagonally across Campo San Barnaba, past the fruit and vegetable barge, another twenty or thirty metres, and you are at the front door.)
