Solo Travel: Best Route from Rome - Amalfi

Hi there!

I'm finalizing a trip in June and looking for the best advice/tips on solo travel from Rome to the Amalfi Coast. I have been to Italy before (but never solo) and never to Rome or the Amalfi Coast. I'm proficient in Italian and feel comfortable with the language.

I'd like to spend 2 nights/3 days in Rome to view all the attractions, history, etc. Then I'd like to unwind in the Amalfi Coast/Positano/Ravello/Sorrento. What are the best ways to travel from Rome to Amalfi? Fly to Naples? Bus? Train? Looking to spend 2 days in Amalfi before making my way back up North to Viareggio for a family wedding.

I'm also open to hearing the best hostels or bnbs in Amalfi. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance :)

Fast train (Frecciarossa) from Rome to Salerno.
Bus (or boat, if weather permits) from Salerno to Amalfi
Train timetable below:
www.trenitalia.com
station names: ROMA TERMINI - SALERNO
(use the same website to find a the train from Salerno to Viareggio)
If you go to Amalfi as soon as you land, then you visit Rome (and ultimately Viareggio), you might be able to maximize your time. If you fly back from Rome, you also need to spend the last night in Rome. Viareggio is too far to catch a morning flight.

When you use the term "Amalfi", do you mean the town of that name or are you using it as a shorthand for the entire region?

Flying would be the worst choice to get the area from Rome ( unless you have a private helicopter :-) )

Sorrento is not ON the Amalfi coast. You need to decide exactly where you want to stay.
It takes a bit of time to get there- When you say "Looking to spend 2 days in Amalfi" is that 2 NIGHTs or 3 NIGHTS/ 2 full days? I'm hoping 3 nights!

Train to Salerno is the most direct but then you've got to get to your Amalfi coast town of choice- bus/ferry/private driver are your choices.
Since this is June you have to expect crowds on the bus, etc. Amalfi (town) is the transportation hub for the coast, so that's where I would recommend.

Or spend your 2-3? nights in Sorrento and just enjoy that town. (train to Naples then local train or driver to Sorrento)

IOW- you don't really have time for "Amalfi Coast/Positano/Ravello/Sorrento" when you add in travel to/from.
