Solo Rome trip accommodations: Convent vs. AirBnB

Hello all,
I am traveling to Rome solo in late September and this will be my first time in the city. Because I am coming from a longer stay with friends in Germany I unfortunately cannot spend more than 3 days which I know will be tough but I just hope to get the flavor of the city and see some highlights! I am planning to do a half day walking tour of the ancient sites, a half day tour of the Vatican, and spend the remainder of the time exploring Rome's restaurants and best gelato spots!

As a solo female traveler I am concerned with safety and although I am very budget conscious, I am hesitant to stay near the train station where it seems most budget hotels/hostels are located. I would like to have dinner in the evening and not worry about walking back or taking public transport. My max budget is 80 euro a night which I know is tight! I am also concerned with flexibility of check in and check out so that I can maximize my days there and not worry about storing my luggage elsewhere. For that reason, I am looking into staying at a convent or using AirBnB. I have narrowed it down to the following:

A room with AirBnB for $58 per night which is described as a two minute walk to the Piazza del Popolo and the metro A:

Or a convent with Nostra Signora di Lordes near the Spanish Steps for 75 Euro per night:

Both include breakfast, both seem to be safe for a solo traveler, and both have good reviews. I know the AirBnB is farther from the center but it has very flexible check in and check out which would help me maximize my days and also would save me money. Has anyone stayed in convents in Rome? This one is supposed to be quite nice though sparse. Is staying near Piazza del Popolo too far out and will I waste precious time on public transit? Any input on these choices or other tips for accommodations is very much appreciated!

Many people are out late in Rome, which makes the streets pretty safe, but you have to be aware of your 23:00 curfew if you stay at the convent. In my experience over a few visits, the curfew was the only thing that ever jeopardized my ability to come home "safely" after dinner (when I had chosen to dine across town).

Gretchen, I vote for the convent, a more unique experience, right in the middle of things. Curfew in Sept is actually 11:30 pm. You can't throw a party in your room though, are you a party girl?

By the way, a great gelato place is Frigiderium near Piazza Navona. It's one of our favorites!

We have stayed in 2 convents in Rome over the course of 20 years, Fraterna Domus and S. Lucia Fillipini. Our favorite, hands down was Casa San Lucia Fillipini near the V. Emmanuale monument. It was a great location, very clean, good breakfast and an interior courtyard. We asked for the rooms facing the courtyard and the only noise we heard were the birds in the morning!
Have fun in Roma!

Wow! Thank you all for these wonderful and quick replies!!

Yes the curfew I was wondering about but haha I am not a "party girl" so that should not be much of a problem especially if it is more centrally located and as you point out Larry the time is moved up to 11:30 when I am there :) Marie, thank you for the tip about Casa San Lucia Fillipini, I will take a look and see if they have availability. And thanks Becky for the gelato tip. Appreciate all your help!
