Solo Birthday, May in Venice

I will be traveling solo in Venice at the end of May, which happens to land on my birthday! Any suggestions on where to have a low key lunch or dinner? I am not super fancy, love all types of food and not super picky. I would just like to know for sure that someone has actually been there and the food was good. The last time I was in Venice, the food was absolutely awful and I hope it was just because I ended up in the wrong places. Bonus points if you tell me where the best gelato is! Thanks guys!
