Socks with Sandals

When hiking I wear "hiking sandals" which are sturdy leather with good solid soles with good tread. They are much like a hiking shoe - but they breath. I seem to get blisters easily when wearing tennis shoes or hiking boots. Never got a blister with these.

I am hoping that these will be sufficient for my trip this year. We are planning to hike up to the rim of Mt. Vesuvius. I was planning to wear socks with my sandals. Has anyone made this hike? Do you think my method will work? Or should I pack the uncomfortable (and heavy) hiking boots?

You'll look like nearly every German hiker that you meet! Are you taking along the collapsing ski poles?

The hiking boots are ancient. They are ok if the humidity is dry. But I know Italy in July and August is everything but dry!!!!

Thanks for the vote that socks with sandals are ok!

I sure could take those ski poles! I think I will use that space and weight for my travel tripod though.

We hiked Mt Vesuvius in May. The path is loose and gravelly and somewhat steep in areas but otherwise good. Other than kicking out a pebble every now and then socks and sandals should be fine.

Leal,

Thank you! That seals it. Socks and Sandals and no tennies or boots. I can handle a pebble or two!
